The book focuses primarily on Guthrie’s adult life, which he spent hitchhiking across the United States, during an incredibly tumultuous time in history. Living through massive events such as the Dust Bowl, The Okie Migration and the Great Depression, the life and work of  Woody Guthrie is a vivid testimony of the struggle of the common man as well as an excellent snapshot of 1930’s America which holds a great deal of historical weight and relevancy to the current state of the world.
