A MAGNIFICENT VILLAIN: CRUELLA DOESN’T SCARE ME, AND NO EVIL THING WILL

Most of the heroes and heroines of the Disney franchise films fall in love and get married in order to live happily ever after. These storylines typically come from fairytales and reveal stereotypical and exaggerated portrayals of traditional gender roles. Most female villains in these films are designed to look unattractive. However, Cruella De Vil, the villain from the 1961 film, 101 Dalmatians - which is one of the first Disney films to not originate from a fairy tale - is different. She is heartless and cruel, but she isn't grotesque or horrifying. She's the epitome of a shrewd businesswoman.
She is strong, well-heeled, and modern.
