Taji la Afrika
For generations hair was extremely valued in African culture, a symbol of identity and social status. When the Europeans came and took West & West-Central Africans away from their home, they stripped them from the identity and status that they had in their societies. In my thesis I took a deep dive into the meaning of the beautiful hairstyles originating in Africa and how they became a source of style, status, and survival.
