DANSAEKHWA: The Meditative Korean Art of Monochrome Painting

Dansaekhwa, often translated as "Monochrome painting" in Korean, is a retroactive term grouping together disparate artworks exhibited in South Korea beginning in the mid-1970s. Sometimes the literal translation of a word cannot contain its complete meaning. During this era in Korean art history artists shared their spirits through their art. Dansaekhwa contains texts best suited to describe the influential artists and movements of the time and is critical to understanding the history of Korean culture in arts.
